Hello! My name is Sydney Going. I was born in the town of Saint Petersburg, FL in the year 1993. From a very early age, I loved art. I would draw inside and outside the lines by the time I was two. I was also very imaginative. I was always telling stories, and sharing the tales of my vivid imagination. I started taking the first step towards my artistic career when I began attending Perkins Elementary school, a magnet arts school with a magnet arts program. I got to take many classes but art was by far my favorite.
I continued taking it into middle school, at another arts magnet program school, John Hopkins Middle school. I was in visual arts focus for all three years. I stuck with it also in high school, and this was where things got serious. I auditioned and got accepted into the Pinellas County Center for the Arts' prestigious arts program, in the visual arts major.Over the years in high school I began to develop and hone my skills of illustration and design, rendering and building my artistic portfolio. I got the chance to take Advanced Placement drawing in junior year, and received a 4 (the second highest score) on a national level for my portfolio. In senior year, I honed my conceptualism. I helped organize a senior group exhibition entitled "Passage." My piece "Seeds" ended up winning the award of artistic merit. I later began my proposal for my own off campus solo exhibition. I then later submitted it, and got the honor for being able to completely curate, organize, and set up my own exhibition of my works, like a professional artist. That year I got a 5 (the highest ranked score) on my portfolio, and it was ranked in the top percentile of the country.
My senior show in 2012 was entitled "Human/Animal" and was a series of my ballpoint pen portraits of people paired with the animals that represented them best. As I graduated high school, I got accepted into the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia where I attended classes for a year as a sequential art major. After a medical leave, I was reaccepted to Ringling College of Art and Design in fall of 2022, and I am currently attending Ringling for the major of Visual Studies and the minor of creative writing, and am almost done with my degree towards my B.A and B.F.A. My graduation date is fall of 2025.
I enjoy my classes of visual development, character design, and writing. The character creation and costuming came around sophmore year of high school and has evolved into what it is today. I make up characters that represent part of myself, that are wild, imaginative, and out there, each different in their own way. I enjoy developing their stories, and even get to become that character when I put on the matching costume representation of them. In my down time I create art for selling at pop culture conventions, and also make costumes to wear and cosplay. I also enjoy showing dogs.
I enjoy what I do, and hope to continue making up imaginative and crazy creatures and characters for as long as I live.
